Welcome to the Feast, Divine!

Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday and as a parish we also welcome to the Lord’s table seven of our number who will receive Holy Communion for the first time.

In Rublev’s icon we see a representation of the visitors to Mamre, where Abraham and Sarah have set up their tents.  The three angelic visitors are interpreted as God: Father, Son and Spirit. The left figure is the Father, with his hand stretched out in blessing. In central figure, with clothes coloured for the earth, the heavens, and the gold of kingship, Jesus Christ reveals his humanity and divinity in the two fingers placed visibly on the table. While in the righthand figure we see the Spirit, with divine blue and the green of new life. Both Son and Spirit are looking to the Father. When we look to the icon our eyes are drawn to the cup of communion at the centre of the scene, and to the space to which the viewer, you and me, are invited.

Today, Fintan, Catherine, Landon, Jarryd, Summer, Mireia, and Owen will be drawn into this space of relationship; drawn into the very life and love of Father, Son, and Spirit. We do not know what will be ahead for them in life, other than this truth: that they will always be accompanied by the God’s love, always be immersed in divine presence.

Congratulations Owen, Mireia, Summer, Jarryd, Landon, Catherine, Fintan! This is a very special day for you and for us all. From today we all together approach the tables of the Word and the Eucharist and together are fed with the life of the Risen Jesus!

With love and prayers, Your Parish Family.
