About the Cathedral
Welcome to the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Wellington. Located in the parliamentary precinct, together with our sister Anglican Cathedral at the other end of Hill Street, Sacred Heart Cathedral plays an important part in the life of the City of Wellington and of New Zealand.
Our central Thorndon location see us as a Catholic Hub with the Sisters of Mercy Conference Centre, as well as Sacred Heart Cathedral School and St Mary’s College all in very close proximity. The Cathedral also works together as part of the Wellington Central Pastoral Area with the Parishes of Otari and St Mary of the Angels.
