Reconciliation

Previously referred to as Confession, or the Sacrament of Penance, the Sacrament of Reconciliation applies the emphasis on “reunion”, a strengthening or healing of my relationship with God.  Being reconciled brings a sense of joy and peace.

The Reconciliation Room (no longer the Confessional) is a place were you should feel welcome and comfortable.  Pope Francis has made it clear that your experience there should not leave you feeling you have been in “a torture chamber” but in a place where forgiveness is celebrated and a new beginning guaranteed.

Like all the Sacraments, Reconciliation brings about the presence of Jesus. By accepting responsibility for personal faults and disclosing them, the penitent is assured of the healing touch of Jesus.  In this Sacrament you encounter Jesus as Shepherd and a Loving Parent, showering God’s pardon and peace through the ministry of the Church (represented by the priest).

Children are usually introduced to this Sacrament prior to their First Communion.

Reconciliation is available by appointment. For further information contact the Parish Office cathedral.parish@wn.catholic.org.nz 04 496 1700 or talk with the Priest after Mass.
