Baptism
Baptism is the point of entry into the Christian family and is celebrated either by full immersion or by pouring water over the head – doing so in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
It is normal practice for parents to seek Baptism for their child soon after birth, their own faith in the God revealed by Jesus Christ encouraging them to want the same way of life for their family. Parents should contact the parish at their earliest convenience. A time of preparation is necessary.
An adult seeking Baptism would be asked to join a programme generally known as RCIA – the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Such programmes are held in parishes (or in a group of parishes) over 8 – 10 months, climaxing at Easter which is the ideal time for this Sacrament.
