Called to Love
At the end of this year’s Called & Equipped Formation Programme, one of the questions we were asked was ‘What has changed for you this year in relation to church?’ On reflection, one word came to mind: Love.
The Church, as Christ’s body, does everything through love. Without love, the Church cannot be alive in our Lord. Without love, the Church cannot be our mother through whom God nurtures all creation. Love. In 1 John 4:10, St John writes, ‘This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven.’ In, turn, our Lord Jesus Christ loves us so much that he willingly gave himself in sacrifice to save us all. And on the cross, he said to the second criminal ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.’ Love.
In this Feast of Christ the King, we celebrate and recognise that our Lord is king in the Kingdom of God in which we already live. As Christians, we are called to witness to the Kingdom of God in the world (Acts 1:8). We are called to advocate for the dignity of all, to work towards the common good, and to stand against injustices. We are called to love.
God’s love permeates all creation. God’s love sets us free – free from sin, free from fear. With this freedom, we are able to love God above all and love our brothers and sisters as our selves. So, let God’s love flow in us, through us, to serve and proclaim His Gospel.
The Kingdom of God here, now, around us, amongst us.

Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!
