“The Light of Christ! Thanks be to God!”
In the darkness of the night, a light will shine – Yes, the Light of Christ! We can hold this truth before us always. In the times in which the shadows of life lengthen, and the clouds descend as they do, we can hear the call, “The Light of Christ!” And with our full heart and mind, our very soul, we can respond, “Thanks be to God!”
There is no darkness that can withstand the presence of light. Darkness will always be extinguished by light. And Jesus is always with us. In fifty days’ time we will celebrate the reality that he breathed his Spirit upon the disciples, the Church. By doing so, his very presence remains ever in the Church, and in the world; created by God through his Word, Jesus.
How beautiful it is to be celebrating these most holy of days in our Cathedral Church. There will have been moments through the project, from that day in 2018 when the doors had to close (and even before) when things seemed impossible. Yet, you as a parish knew that with God, nothing is impossible. And here we are with light, and love, with energy, with song, in our unity with diversity, we are celebrating in our ‘home of faith’ these most sacred of mysteries.
Immersing ourselves in the days of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem; his triumphant welcome by the crowds, his Supper with his disciples, his betrayal, his trial, his suffering, and his death, do not lead us to despair. For we are aware of how the Scriptures will lead us to be with Peter, running from the tomb, bending down, seeing binding cloths discarded, with nothing else. And with Peter we can go home, amazed at what has happened.

Yes, with the light and love of the Risen Jesus, we can always return home, in our every day, amazed at what happens in our lives!
May the joy of Easter Good News be a blessing to you and to your families. Thank you to all who have been involved in the preparation of the Holy Week and Triduum Celebrations, and may you ever know of your being the Beloved of God!
Prayers, patrick
